【PCauto】Changan MAZDA EZ-60 has officially launched in the Chinese market. As Mazda's first globally-oriented electric SUV, the model is available in both all-electric and range-extended variants, with an official starting price of 119,900 CNY (approximately 71,000 MYR).

The MAZDA EZ-60 was developed as a global model, engineered to meet the standards of the Chinese, Japanese, and European markets. The vehicle is planned to be exported to Europe and Southeast Asia by early 2026, where it may be named CX-6e.

Key Design Features of the MAZDA EZ-60

The MAZDA EZ-60 builds upon Mazda's iconic KODO design language while incorporating innovative electrification elements.

The dimensions of the vehicle are:

Length: 4850mm

Width: 1935mm

Height: 1620mm

Wheelbase reaches 2902mm

The MAZDA EZ-60 demonstrates outstanding aerodynamic efficiency. Through extensive optimization utilizing nine air duct systems and seven aerodynamic components, the model achieves a drag coefficient of 0.26Cd. This represents an 18% improvement over other models on the same platform and contributes to a 41 km increase in the CLTC range.

At high speeds, the rear air ducts can generate 705N of downforce to enhance tire grip, while the multi-duct design reduces wind noise inside the cabin by 4 dB(A), thereby improving voice command clarity.

The interior features an enveloping layout, equipped with a 26.45-inch 5K floating integrated screen and a 100-inch naked-eye 3D HUD that supports eye-tracking navigation functionality.

Equipped with the MediaTek MT8676 4nm automotive-grade chip, the MAZDA EZ-60's system achieves a 25-40% computational boost over common 7nm solutions. This ensures a rapid 39ms voice response and allows over 1,700 vehicle functions to be comprehensively controlled by voice, making it one of the most responsive systems in its class.

The intelligent driving assistance system features a standard L2 ADAS suite with bundled functions on all trim levels, including 30 functions, and the AEB automatic emergency braking speed has been increased to 80km/h.

MAZDA EZ-60 Powertrain

In terms of the power system, the MAZDA EZ-60 extended-range version (EREV) is equipped with a 1.5L Atkinson cycle range extender, delivering a maximum power of 72kW, paired with a 190kW rear-mounted electric motor. This configuration delivers a CLTC pure electric range of 200 km and a total comprehensive range of over 1,300 km.

The pure electric version (BEV) provides two configurations, standard range and long range, which are fitted with a 56.1 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery and a 78 kWh NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery, offering CLTC ranges of 480 km and 600 km, respectively.

The MAZDA EZ-60 supports 3C ultra-fast charging capability across the entire lineup, allowing the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes. Charging efficiency in low-temperature environments is further enhanced by pulse heating technology.

The chassis is underpinned by the Changan EPA platform and tuned by Mazda's engineering team. Featuring a rear-wheel-drive architecture and a continuously variable damping suspension, it achieves an elk test speed of 78–83 km/h, a performance that bears the signature of Mazda's driving DNA.

Safety of MAZDA EZ-60

MAZDA EZ-60 adopts a 7-horizontal 5-vertical cage body structure, with high-strength steel accounting for 86.5%, hot-formed steel at 27.45%, and a maximum strength of 2000 MPa.

Equipped with 9 standard airbags across all models, including dual-chamber central airbags and 2-meter-long side curtains, offering a protection area of 26,500 cm².

Battery safety is ensured through an 8-layer protection architecture, including IP68 waterproof certification and an intelligent thermal management system, which already complies with 2026 Chinese national and European standards.

The model's robustness was validated during its R&D phase with over 9 million kilometers of testing across extreme environments, further evidenced by its "TOP Safety" award from the China Automotive Technology & Research Center and a place among the "2025 China Top 10 Body" selections.

Global Production and Sales Strategy for the MAZDA EZ-60

Currently, MAZDA faces declining sales pressure in China's fuel vehicle sector, with annual sales in 2024 at only 75,700 units, a year-on-year decrease of 14.69%. Some authorized dealers are switching to other brands, which has severely impacted the after-sales service network.

Therefore, Changan MAZDA plans to achieve an annual sales volume of 300,000 electric vehicles by 2027, with one-third allocated for export. The battery safety of the EZ-60 has been verified under driving conditions in eight European countries, confirming its robust performance and readiness for different regional standards and terrains, key for global deployment.

Perodua Traz VS Toyota Yaris Cross, where does the Traz fall short?

Before the official launch of the Perodua Traz, market expectations were actually very high because it shares the same DNGA platform as the Toyota Yaris Cross. However, sharing the same platform does not equate to the same experience, and the Traz's final performance has indeed been disappointing. Perhaps it is precisely because of the delayed launch that it has almost no competitiveness in the current competitive environment.

Should I choose the top-tier Toyota Corolla Cross, or the entry-level Fortuner?

Should we spend more money on a compact SUV, or add a bit more to buy a larger SUV? Although for many families, the 20,000 MYR price difference is not a small amount, considering that the number of family members may increase in the future, choosing a more practical and spacious car can save the trouble and cost of replacing a vehicle later on.
