New Xiaomi Auto Model: Xiaomi SU7 Touring? Official Responded
AshleyApr 29, 2024, 04:04 PM
On April 28, it was reported that Xiaomi Auto has planned 7 models, 3 of which are SUV models benchmarked to Li Auto's L series. The second new model is a pure electric SUV, which is expected to be launched in the first half of 2025, and it will continue the design standard of Xiaomi SU7. The third model is preliminarily positioned at the price range of 150,000 RMB, which is expected to be launched in 2026.
Once the news was released, renderings guessing its appearance appeared on Chinese social media. The picture source is SugarDesign.
According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, from January to February of 2024, the market share of pure electric C-class sedans in China's electrified car market was only 3.7%, while the share of hybrid C-class SUVs was 6.6%. It can be seen that SUVs are more attractive to Chinese people than sedans, especially range-extended SUVs. This provides data support for guesses on Xiaomi Auto's layout of new models.
On the same day, the general manager of Xiaomi Group's PR department, Wang Hua, responded to this saying that the news is not true. Xiaomi Corporation also issued an urgent rumor denial, stating that the company is focusing on increasing production capacity, speeding up the delivery of Xiaomi SU7, and continuously improving user service experience.
Discussions about Xiaomi's new car model have always existed. On April 18, Lei Jun mentioned the new car model plan during a live broadcast with GWM Chairman Wei Jianjun, stating that there is no plan to make off-road vehicles for now. GWM did a great job with the SUV, and Xiaomi should work together with all peers in the automotive industry to expand the industry, rather than trying to do everything.
On April 20, Zhou Hongyi, the founder of 360, stated on Chinese social media that he had a dialogue with Xiaomi Auto CEO Lei Jun about the experience of Xiaomi SU7 at the Internet 30th Anniversary Forum. Lei Jun responded that Xiaomi SU7 is designed for users who pursue driving pleasure, and it is not suitable for Zhou Hongyi. He will recommend it when the company makes SUVs. At that time, netizens speculated that Xiaomi Auto would have the SUV model output.
From Xiaomi's announcement of car-making plans to the launch of the new car SU7, it has been the focus of internet attention. On March 28, Xiaomi SU7 was launched in Beijing with its performance and price, and related topics frequently hit the Chinese social media attention list. On the day of the press conference, the large order exceeded 10,000 units in 4 minutes, the large order exceeded 20,000 units in 7 minutes, and the large order was 88,898 units in 24 hours.
On April 20, the Xiaomi SU7 locked orders exceeded 70,000 units. Xiaomi Auto stated that it is currently expanding its production capacity with all its strength, and the annual delivery target will exceed 100,000 units. The original plan was to start delivery of the standard version and Max at the end of April, now it was advanced to April 18.
On April 25, the number of locked orders for the Xiaomi SU7 came to 75,723 units. Lei Jun revealed Xiaomi SU7's delivery data at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, "Successfully delivered 5,781 Xiaomi SU7s 28 days after listing".
On April 29, Lei Jun stated on a social platform that "32 days after the launch of the Xiaomi SU7, our mass-produced 10,000th complete car officially came off the assembly line".
According to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association, in the first half of April 2024, 516,000 passenger cars were sold in China's retail market, including 260,000 electric cars. The penetration rate of electric vehicles has exceeded 50% for the first time, and its market share has exceeded gasoline vehicles for the first time.
