Perodua Traz receives ASEAN NCAP five-star safety rating, surpassing Toyota Yaris Cross

【PCauto】Perodua Traz, being a sister model of the Toyota Yaris Cross, released its full ASEAN NCAP crash test report shortly after its launch, achieving a five-star rating.
The DNGA platform, with its structural reinforcements and use of high-strength steel, forms the foundation for Traz's safety performance. Under the current 2021–2025 ASEAN NCAP testing standards, the Perodua Traz achieved a total score of 86.86 points.

Specifically, Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) scored 30.86 out of 32 points, Child Occupant Protection (COP) achieved 43.89 out of 51 points, and Safety Assist (SA) scored 19.5 out of 21 points.
Even in the Motorcycle Rider Protection segment—particularly important in the Southeast Asian market—Traz scored 10 out of 16 points, contributing to an overall well-balanced performance with no significant weaknesses.

Notably, this is not Perodua's only recent five-star model. For instance, the Perodua QV-E EV concept, whose test results were released a month ago, achieved an even slightly higher score of 88.36 points.
In fact, upon closer inspection, Traz's raw scores in the core crash test categories (AOP and COP) were slightly higher than those of the QV-E concept. The QV-E offset this difference by securing a perfect score in the Safety Assist (SA) category.

For further context, the Toyota Yaris Cross (Indonesia-produced version), which underwent testing earlier under the same procedures at the MIROS PC3 laboratory, recorded a total score of 83.02 points.
In both the Adult Occupant Protection and Safety Assist categories, Traz's performance slightly surpassed that of the Toyota Yaris Cross. This comparative data, derived from the same set of rules and testing facility, makes Traz's five-star rating even more convincing.
Traz's high scores are underpinned by its comprehensive safety configuration. The vehicle comes standard with six airbags and is equipped with the Perodua Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) system, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking (with pedestrian and motorcycle detection), front departure alert, and pedal misoperation control.
Additionally, it comes equipped with features such as lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. This extensive suite of features demonstrates that its safety systems are designed for real-world utility, going beyond merely chasing a high test score.
However, Traz is not without its notable omissions. Most conspicuously, cruise control is unavailable across the entire lineup, lacking even basic traditional cruise control---a feature that is already commonplace in other Perodua models such as the Ativa, Alza, and Myvi.

In terms of pricing, the Traz remains firmly within Perodua's affordable range. The entry-level X variant starts at RM76,100, while the high-spec H variant is priced at RM81,100. The dual-tone body option raises the price to approximately RM82,000. Higher-spec variants further add features like a 360-degree surround-view camera and a built-in dashcam.
Evidently, the Traz is not a vehicle rushed to market. Its development project was initiated as early as 2021, representing a total investment of RM563 million. Perodua has set a monthly sales target of 1,900 units for the model and aims for a localization rate exceeding 95%.
