Should I choose Proton X50, or continue waiting for the repeatedly disappointing Perodua Nexis?

People who like the Perodua brand but can't find a better option than the Perodua Ativa might consider looking at the Proton X50, or they may choose to continue waiting for the Perodua Nexis.

The Perodua Nexis is an all-new model, built on the DNGA-B platform, and it is expected to feature a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with 106 hp and 140 Nm of torque, paired with a D-CVT transmission with a start-up gear. Its driving experience is expected to be similar to the Perodua Alza.
The Perodua Nexis is a B-segment SUV with dimensions around 4,320 x 1,770 x 1,685 mm, and a weight of approximately 1,300 kg.

Its basic specifications are quite similar to those of the Proton X50, and the official price is likely to be in the same range. However, the Proton X50 has not been updated for quite some time. If you're a younger buyer, it’s recommended to wait for the Perodua Nexis instead.

The reason lies in the DNGA-B platform, which is shared with the Toyota Yaris Cross. This platform will offer Level 2 driver assistance features, a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Moreover, since the Perodua Nexis and the Toyota Yaris Cross are essentially twin models, there are hopes that a hybrid version will be introduced, offering better fuel efficiency and stronger performance for the Perodua Nexis.
The safety features on the DNGA-B platform will also be significantly improved. The vehicle's body structure will be stiffer, and the Perodua Nexis is expected to have more airbags than the Proton X50, likely offering six airbags.

It can be said that the Perodua Nexis offers more tech features than the Proton X50, making it a more suitable choice for younger buyers. However, the Perodua Nexis, originally scheduled to be launched in April this year, disappointed many when its release was delayed due to an issue with DAIHATSU's collision data fraud.
Now, there are reports that the Perodua Nexis is ready for release in early next year, with an expected price of around RM 80,000. If you’re not in a rush to buy a car, the Perodua Nexis is definitely worth waiting for.
