【PCauto】As more details about the Perodua Nexis / Traz (D66B) emerge, this all-new model is generating increasing curiosity, with its potential pricing being a particularly intriguing aspect.
The pricing of Nexis / Traz needs to be cautious
Within Perodua's existing product lineup, SUVs have long occupied a somewhat awkward position. Once launched in the actual market, the Nexis / Traz will enter a highly competitive price segment.
At the lower end, Perodua's own aggressively priced Ativa firmly holds its entry-level position as the "national SUV."
At the higher end, there is the well-established Proton X50, and beyond that lie formidable competitors such as the Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross.

The Nexis / Traz is not a model that competes on performance or brand prestige. It is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and tuned for family-oriented use and efficiency.
Together with Perodua's consistently pragmatic product philosophy, it is not positioned to directly challenge the high-end configurations of the X50, nor is it suited to encroach upon the premium price ranges of Honda and Toyota.
In other words, the market has already predefined a pricing boundary for the Nexis / Traz: it must be priced below the X50 while clearly signaling to consumers that it is not merely a larger version of the Ativa.
The pricing constraints of Nexis / Traz come more from within
Perodua's product lineup has always emphasized a clear structure. From the Axia, Myvi, and Alza to the Ativa, each model's pricing is deliberately staggered to avoid internal competition.
Currently, the Ativa's price ceiling has clearly established an upper limit; if the Nexis / Traz is priced too closely to it, consumers may wonder, "Why not opt for the larger model instead?"

At the same time, it must not cross another invisible boundary: that of Toyota.
Whether in terms of platform lineage or market segmentation, Perodua cannot allow the Nexis / Traz's pricing to directly compete with the Yaris Cross, let alone challenge the Corolla Cross. This is not merely a matter of cost-effectiveness, but one of brand positioning.
It is precisely within these two constraints that the pricing strategy for the Nexis / Traz becomes clear.
The price of Perodua Nexis / Traz should be around RM80,000
Considering market competition and Perodua's own product hierarchy, the most reasonable pricing strategy for the Nexis / Traz would be to set its starting price clearly above that of the Ativa while remaining below the primary price range of the Proton X50.

An entry-level price of around RM80,000, which clearly distinguishes it from the Ativa, should be sufficient to make potential buyers seriously consider "whether to stretch their budget slightly."
With a more comprehensive configuration, and potentially even a hybrid variant, the top-end price would likely fall between RM95,000 and RM100,000. This approach not only avoids overstepping its class but also maintains Perodua's consistent value-for-money appeal.
When the Nexis / Traz is launched, the exact figures may vary slightly, but as long as it remains positioned between the Ativa and the X50, this pricing range leaves little room for doubt.
