It is reported that Mazda will be updating its best-selling mid-size SUV model, the Mazda CX-5, but the changes will not happen all at once. The new mainstream family SUV is expected to make its debut at the Japanese auto show in October next year and go on sale in early 2026.
The Mazda CX-5 first debuted in 2012, with its concept version revealed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Since then, the model has only undergone one update in 2017. According to Mazda's typical five-to-six-year major update cycle, the CX-5 is now due for a refresh.

The third-generation Mazda CX-5 will compete with hybrid models like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Mazda hopes to stand out in the competitive SUV market with its exceptional driving experience and a variety of powertrain options.
The Mazda CX-5 is Mazda's most popular model, accounting for 30% of global sales and 24% of Mazda deliveries in Australia. Before the Toyota RAV4 emerged, the Mazda CX-5 had held the title of Australia's best-selling SUV for seven consecutive years.

It is worth noting that Mazda plans to introduce its own hybrid powertrains for the third-generation Mazda CX-5, including 48V mild-hybrid, full hybrid, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configurations, aimed at improving fuel efficiency and vehicle performance. This marks a significant step in Mazda's own innovation in electrification, as it will no longer rely on Toyota’s hybrid technology.

Mazda CX-50 VS Mazda CX-5?
The Mazda CX-50 shares a similar overall silhouette with the Mazda CX-5, but the CX-50 features notable upgrades in size, measuring 4785mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1638mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2815mm. Additionally, the Mazda CX-50 is expected to launch a petrol-electric hybrid version in 2024, which overlaps slightly with the product positioning of the Mazda CX-5.
