On the evening of July 19, Xiaomi's founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun held the 5th annual keynote speech titled "Courage", primarily discussing the ins and outs of car manufacturing and the ups and downs experienced over the past three years. After the speech, a variety of Xiaomi ecosystem products were released, followed by the announcement of the latest developments in Xiaomi Auto and the unveiling of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype car. The vehicle is equipped with a three-motor system delivering a maximum power of 1584 horsepower, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds and is set to challenge the Nurburgring non-production lap record in October of this year.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype Car Unveiled
Carbon Fiber Body | Aerodynamic Design | Three-Motor Four-Wheel Drive System

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype car is based on the Xiaomi SU7 and is specifically designed for racing as a "lap-master". Its purpose is to challenge the Nurburgring non-production lap record, with the end goal of becoming the fastest four-door electric car on the Nurburgring in ten years.

It's worth noting that many of the advanced technologies equipped on the prototype will also be widely applied on mass-produced cars after race track verification, which is also the key reason why Xiaomi Auto insists on using a four-door car to compete in Nurburgring. Furthermore, the mass-produced version of the SU7 Ultra will formally challenge the Nurburgring production car lap speed leaderboard in 2025.

In terms of appearance, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype adopts a longer, wider, and lower stance design. The body is covered with a large number of racing kits, and paired with a unique lightning yellow color scheme and lightning decal, the overall style is very racing-oriented.

More importantly, the new car adopts an "all-carbon" design, with 100% of the body covering parts using carbon fiber, including front lip/bumper, fender/side skirt/side enclosure/door, rear bumper/diffuser/spoiler, roof/front and rear cover, a total of 24 places. The overall car weight has been reduced by more than 599kg, with a curb weight of only 1900kg, which is lighter than some same-size mass-produced gasoline cars.

In order to maximize track performance, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype car also builds aerodynamic design, specially designed fixed racing large tail wing, extra-large rear diffuser, front and rear open wheel arches, extra-large front lip, front wheel diffuser, U-shaped wind knife, etc., bringing a maximum downforce of 2145kg to the whole vehicle. Such a strong downforce greatly enhances the overall handling stability of the vehicle and plays a crucial role in improving the lap speed of the track.

In terms of body size, the length, width, and height of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype car are 5260/2064/1406mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 3000mm. In comparison, the length, width, and height of the currently sold Xiaomi SU7 are 4997/1963/1455mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 3000mm.

In terms of power, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype is equipped with a three-motor system consisting of dual V8s motors and a V6 motor. The system's total output power reaches 1548 horsepower, the 0-100km/h acceleration time is only 1.97 seconds (including start-up time), the 0-200km/h acceleration time is 5.96 seconds (including start-up time), and the maximum speed exceeds 350km/h.

This racecar is also equipped with a track-specific braking system, including an AP six-piston brake caliper, racing brake discs and brake pads that can withstand a maximum operating temperature of over 800℃, and a 100-0km/h braking distance of only 25m.

In addition, to meet the higher power demand of the three-motor system, the car will be equipped with CATL's second-generation Kirin battery, which can support a maximum discharge power of 1330kW, a peak voltage of 897V, and a power density of up to 3075W/kg. Moreover, through a thinner electrode design, it can still output a maximum power of more than 800kW even at a low power level of 20% to ensure stable high power output in the second half of the Nürburgring.
The battery pack also supports a maximum charging rate of 5.2C, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes, providing rapid energy replenishment to get back on the track.

Currently, the fastest all-electric four-door car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife is the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT (Weissach Package version), which achieved a lap record of 7 minutes and 07.55 seconds in March this year. This result is the fastest among all four-door models of any powertrain type on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The challenge for Xiaomi SU7 Ultra production version to surpass Porsche is a great one, however, it does have a certain hope to surpass the 7 minute 25.231 second record created by Tesla Model S Plaid (equipped with a track kit, without a Yoke steering wheel).

About the price of this car, Lei Jun didn't reveal in detail, but he joked that he might not even be able to afford it. However, this car will not be mass-produced. The real mass-produced model is Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, which is expected to be released in the first half of 2025 according to the current pace. After this car is launched, it will compete with models like ZEEKR 001 FR, Tesla Model S Plaid, and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. All these models have official 0-100 acceleration time within 2.3 seconds. Among them, the cheapest one is ZEEKR 001 FR, with an official 0-100 acceleration time of just 2.02 and a price of 769,000 RMB. You can refer to this.
