Xiaomi SU7 Sold Out for the Year - Lei Jun Suggests Purchasing the Competitors if You're in a Hurry

Since its launch, Xiaomi's automobile has received much attention and recent news has been constant. On April 23, Lei Jun announced at the Xiaomi Investor Conference that the reservation quantity for the Xiaomi SU7 has exceeded 70,000 units, and the delivery target for the Xiaomi SU7 in 2024 exceeds 100,000 units.

"100,000 units" is considered the life and death line for new car manufacturers. For reference, Xpeng Automobile reached 100,000 units in 35 months, NIO was 1 month ahead of Xpeng Automobile, Li Auto took 24 months, and if Xiaomi Automobile achieves its goal, it will be a historic presence. Of course, it's still too early to talk about Xiaomi Automobile's goals.

Interestingly, a previous study by Citi Bank estimated that the delivery volume of the Xiaomi SU7 in April was about 5,000-6,000 units, with a total annual delivery volume of about 55,000-70,000 units. In response to the report, Xu Jieyun, special assistant to the chairman of the Xiaomi Group and deputy general manager of the market department in China, said there might be a large deviation. "Citi may have underestimated the sales boom of the Xiaomi SU7. Over the past few weeks, our orders have been increasing, and we are working hard to improve our delivery capacity."

The current price for the SU7 in China starts at 215,900 yuan, while the top-tier SU7 MAX starts at 299,900 yuan. It can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds, highlighting not only Xiaomi's consistently extreme cost performance but also superlative performance, endurance, and ecosystem. The overall setup is quite rich, and the evaluations given by several friends who have already test-driven are very positive. It is indeed commendable for such performance on their first car. And now, if you look at the official ordering platform, and if you order a car now, the waiting period for this car is about 29 – 35 weeks (7 – 9 months), which is quite an impressive achievement for the first car of a new brand.

At the end of last year, Lei Jun said in an interview, "We definitely have expectations for Xiaomi SU7, but cars are indeed very complicated. I'm especially worried that if it's not popular when it first comes out, no one will buy it; what's even more worrisome is that if everyone comes to buy it, we have to wait for one or two years, we will be scolded. All of these are various anxious emotions." Lei Jun said that Xiaomi's future car-making goal is to aim to enter the top five in the world within 15-20 years. He will devote half of his time to car-making, and cars will also be the part that involves the most personal experience. Of course, this goal is full of challenges and requires further verification from time and market.

According to auto blogger “Sun Shaojun”, Xiaomi cars have urgently increased production capacity, with daily production increasing to more than 400 vehicles, monthly production reaching about 10,000 vehicles, and annual production demand increasing to 120,000 vehicles. For Lei Jun, instead of worrying about the volume of Xiaomi SU7 orders, he should be more concerned about production capacity. In the case of insufficient production capacity, it is easy to lose orders. However, Lei Jun also responded to this problem yesterday, "If you are anxious to buy a car, domestic new energy vehicles are all good, such as Luxeed S7, NIO ET5, Xpeng P7, etc., everyone can also consider buying!"

Although Lei Jun believes that Xiaomi SU7 is "definitely a success in the first phase", since its launch, Xiaomi's cars have frequently appeared in the public eye due to various problems, such as paint falling off before delivery, insurance fees comparable to oil vehicles of 500,000 Yuan, questioned due to the brake pad area, etc. Lei Jun frankly said in the live broadcast room "Xiaomi cars are so popular that I am terrified, almost every detail has to be looked at with a magnifying glass."

Finally, Xiaomi SU7 is not only a hot topic in China, but also many car fans in this area are paying attention to this car. It's just unknown when Xiaomi plans to enter the international market after such outstanding sales performance in the Chinese market.
