On March 28, Xiaomi SU7 officially went on sale in China, with a total of 3 models launched, priced between 215,900 and 299,900 yuan (about 1,091,000 to 1,515,000 Thai baht). As the first model of Xiaomi's automobile, the SU7 is built on a brand-new super 800V silicon carbide high-pressure platform independently developed by Xiaomi. It is equipped with its own CTB integrated battery technology, and the CLTC pure electric endurance can be up to 830km, The acceleration time of the four-wheel drive model from 0 to 100km/h is only 2.78 seconds. In addition, it is equipped with the Xiaomi Surging OS smart car machine system, built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, and equipped with two Nvidia Orin chips, ranking first in the first echelon of intelligent performance.

Official guide prices for each Xiaomi SU7 sub-model:

-SU7 Standard version 700km: 215,900 yuan (about 1,091,000 Thai baht).

-SU7 Pro version 830km: 245,900 yuan (about 1,243,000 Thai baht).

-SU7 Max version 800km: 299,900 yuan (about 1,515,000 Thai baht).

At the press conference, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that the Standard version and the MAX version will start to be delivered at the end of April, and the Pro version will start to be delivered at the end of May. Because the SU7 is the first vehicle to be launched after Xiaomi entered the automotive field, for the first batch of car buyers, Xiaomi provided an exclusive logo of the founder edition, used on the car body, wing panel, center console, and steering wheel, which has a little meaning of limited edition or commemorative edition.

Lei Jun previously stated: “The Xiaomi SU7 is delivered upon launch, and once delivered, it should achieve large volumes," with a sales target to be among the top three pure electric luxury cars, and an annual delivery target of 100,000 units. The aim is to enter the premier league of the industry, and through 15 to 20 years of effort, Xiaomi Auto aims to be one of the top five car manufacturers globally.

However, given the current popularity of the Xiaomi SU7 in the Chinese market, and combined with its explosive prices and strong product capabilities, Lei Jun's sales expectations for the SU7 may be too understated. The real challenge is likely to be a shortage of supply in the early stages, with production capacity being the greatest test for the SU7. According to previous plans, the annual production capacity of the first phase of the Xiaomi Auto factory is 150,000 units, with the second phase due to start in 2024 and be completed by 2025. The first batch of Xiaomi car stores covers 29 cities in China, with a total of 59 stores and 17 limited-time exhibition halls. The preparation work for the second batch of stores is also being accelerated.

The Exterior Design of Xiaomi SU7

The exterior design of the Xiaomi SU7 should be familiar to many and has made a deep impression. Although there are various controversies, it is undeniable that the SU7 is indeed aesthetically pleasing and has become a focus of attention for many consumers. Notably, the exterior of the Xiaomi SU7 has been designed by Mr. Li Tian, a former designer of BMW iX, with the front face of the car featuring a signature "mi" shape for the headlights, which is creative and easily recognizable.

The side view features a typical sedan-like design, with a fastback style, frameless doors, frameless rearview mirrors, and concealed door handles, giving the vehicle an elegant character. Coupled with Lei Jun’s handpicked “five-spoke plum blossom seal” wheel hub, the vehicle has a perfect posture.

The highlight of the rear tail is the ring-through taillights, which exhibit a 3D effect when lit up. Moreover, while visually appealing, they are also easy to identify. Besides, the Xiaomi SU7 also comes with an adjustable electric rear spoiler, providing downward pressure of up to 130kg.

It's noteworthy that the Xiaomi SU7's design is not just for aesthetics, but also takes into account aerodynamics. The entire vehicle utilizes 8 breezing groups, and 17 true air vents in total, and is equipped with a 16-adjustable AGS active air intake grille. The wind resistance coefficient is only 0.195Cd, which Lei Jun claims to be the lowest in the mass-produced cars.

For the wheels, Xiaomi SU7 offers a choice of 4-wheel hub styles and sizes, as well as a variety of tires with different brands and performance orientations. The base model features 19-inch low-resistance wheel hubs and Michelin e·Primacy low-rolling-resistance tires, which are energy efficient. The mid-range model equips 19-inch sport wheel hubs and Bridgestone TURANZA 6 tires, balancing sportiness and comfort. The high-end model comes with a 20-inch “five-spoke plum blossom hub” and Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires, ideal for quiet sports. Meanwhile, there are also 21-inch smoky sports wheel hubs and Pirelli P ZERO fifth-generation tires that are designed for ultimate sports performance.

In terms of body color, the Xiaomi SU7 offers 9 car paint options, including bay blue, dawn purple, olive green, gray, meteor blue, Cambrian gray, diamond black, lava orange, and pearl white, providing consumers with a rich selection to meet their personalized needs.

In terms of size, the Xiaomi SU7 is positioned as a medium and large sedan, with its length, width, and height being 4997/1963/1455mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 3000mm. Regarding space, the Xiaomi SU7 front row has a vertical space of 1012mm, and a rear knee space of 105mm, which Lei Jun says is superior to the 59mm of the Tesla Model S and the 55mm of the BMW 5 series. In addition, the trunk of the Xiaomi SU7 has a volume of 517 liters, with a standard depth of 1136mm, and when the back row is put down, the volume can reach 1959mm. Its front compartment also has a volume of 105 liters, which has a good advantage in loading.

Xiaomi SU7 Interior Design

In terms of interior, the overall layout of the Xiaomi SU7 is very simple. What catches the eye is a 16.1-inch 3K resolution center control screen, which has the function of adjustable sunflower angle and integrates most of the functions of the car. At the same time, it is equipped with a 7.1-inch flip LCD instrument. When turning on the ignition, the screen will automatically flip and display the necessary driving information, which can be instantly switched in conjunction with the driving mode. In addition, it comes with a 56-inch HUD, with a maximum brightness of 13000nit.

The steering wheel uses a three-spoke flat-bottom design, integrated with driving mode and intelligent driving control buttons - the "Boost mode" activation button. When pressed, it can provide a continuous 20-second excess torque output, achieving acceleration and overtaking. This is identical to Porsche's "Sport Response" button, which can stimulate stronger driving desire in drivers.

Furthermore, in terms of humanization, the Xiaomi SU7 has been taken into account very comprehensively. Not only does it retain physical buttons in the central control area, but users can also blindly operate common keys to control air conditioning temperature, air conditioning air volume, tail wing opening and closing, air suspension adjustment, etc. At the same time, all four sides of the control screen reserve PIN point expansion interfaces, supporting devices to be plug and play, such as expandable physical buttons at the bottom, users who dislike touch buttons will like this design.

In addition to the unique design, the interior detail materials and color matching are also very particular, giving a good sense of luxury. In terms of color matching, the Xiaomi SU7 offers galaxy gray, twilight red, obsidian black, and fog purple, satisfying the aesthetics of different age groups of consumers. In terms of materials, 70% of the car is covered with soft packaging area, all touched are soft, and zeolite-tanned Nappa genuine leather is also used, which is not only environmentally friendly but also safe.

Let's see how intelligent the Xiaomi SU7 is

In terms of intelligent cockpit, Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with Pengpai OS intelligent vehicle system, built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, supports more than 1000 Xiaomi intelligent ecological devices to get on the car without suspended feeling, realizing the sharing of the ecosystem from software to hardware, and realizing the "human-car-home whole ecology" closed loop. Equipped with "Xiaomi intelligent voice assistant", it supports dual-zone voice recognition, speak-as-you-see, 5G network, facial recognition, in-car KTV, simulated sound waves, etc. At the same time, it can realize the fastest 3-minute cockpit system full package upgrade, and 30-minute full car full package upgrade. In addition, the AI model gets on the car. Combined with in-car positioning and in-car cameras, you can ask some questions about things around the car, such as what brand is the car in front of. Or what's the name of this river beside me? This should be the most fun part of Xiaomi SU7 in intelligentialization.

In terms of operation, Xiaomi SU7 achieves the consistent interactive experience of mobile phones and tablets on the car machine, which can be quickly mastered without learning. Like Xiaomi mobile phones, you can call out the control center by sliding down from the top. However, considering the different needs of the main and co-drivers, the driver can control the whole car by sliding down from the left, and the co-driver can adjust the co-drivers seat, and air-conditioning by sliding down from the right. The design is very humanized.

Additionally, Xiaomi SU7 supports five-screen linkage, and the application ecosystem covers mainstream car applications, tablet applications, and mobile phone applications, supports CarPlay and airplay, and also supports Apple iPad on the car.

Meanwhile, relying on the strong NPU computing power and GUP rendering capacity of 8295, the 3D car model of SU7 is made on the desktop. The continuous animation of various functional operations is seamless, and the background light of the vehicle can be adjusted based on the ambient light in the real world to synchronize with the real world, making the operation more immersive.

In the driving interface, commonly used applications such as SR, maps, and music are laid out in a card format. The most advanced "multi-tasking flexible framework" from Xiaomi is applied, which allows the dragging of applications according to personal habits and preferences. As more applications are added, it can even be expanded to multiple desktops, and even adjust the application window size, to form a personalized desktop.

In terms of intelligent driving, the Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with full-stack self-developed intelligent driving technology, boasting advanced technologies such as variable zoom BEV, large road model, and super-resolution occupancy network. In terms of hardware, it will be equipped with 1 lidar, 11 high-definition cameras, 3 millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars, a total of 29 smart driving sensors to jointly accomplish perception of the surrounding environment. The laser radar comes from Hesai AT128 with 128 threads, 1.53 million points cloud/second, and the farthest detection distance is 200m. In addition, it also features two Nvidia Orin-X chips with a total computing power of 508TOPS and comes standard with high speeds NAP, one-button valet parking, intelligent parking assist, and other advanced intelligent driving functions.

As for intelligent driving, Lei Jun said that it is the key battlefield of intelligent electric vehicles. They have invested heavily in the field of intelligent driving, and the current R&D team has already exceeded 1,000 people and is expected to exceed 1,500 by the end of the year. Special vehicles are allocated for testing, and the cumulative mileage of intelligent driving road testing has exceeded 10 million kilometers. At the same time, he also said that Xiaomi's intelligent driving may be the fastest progressing and the most vigorous in the industry, to enter the industry's first echelon within 2024.

As for the city NOA, Lei Jun said that the test will start in April, officially open to 10 cities in May, and go national in August, with very high efficiency.

Performance of the power system

In terms of power, the Xiaomi SU7 offers an option of a single-motor rear-wheel drive and a double-motor four-wheel drive. The dual motor version has a front motor with a maximum power of 220 kilowatts and a rear motor maximum power of 275 kilowatts, combined system power of 495 kilowatts (673 horsepower), system peak torque of 838 Newton meters, equipped with Boost mode, instantly providing 0.95g acceleration, 0-100km/h acceleration time is only 2.78 seconds, 0-200km/h acceleration time is 10.67 seconds, top speed can reach 265km/h. Additionally, with the help of Brembo four-piston brake calipers, the 100-0km/h braking distance is only 33.3 meters.

In terms of range, according to different configurations, it is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack (BYD) from Xiangyang Fredy, and a ternary lithium battery pack from CATL, with battery capacities of 73.6 kWh, 94.3 kWh, and 101 kWh respectively. The pure electric driving range corresponding to 73.6 kWh is 700km, that to 94.3 kWh is 830km, and 101 kWh is 800km (all in CLTC conditions). In addition, the Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with an 800V high voltage platform, combined with a CATL Kirin battery, it can achieve a charging performance of 220km range for 5 minutes charging, and 510km range for 15 minutes charging.

According to the official statement, the Xiaomi SU7 can achieve adaptive road conditions, air dynamics, cornering posture, and active side wings, with a moose test result of 82km/h.

Generally speaking, the advantages of Xiaomi SU7 on the market not only come from the product itself, but also from the comprehensive advantages of brand influence, fan base, sales channels, and capital reserves. These factors together constitute the strong market competitiveness of Xiaomi SU7, laying a solid foundation for its greater success in the future car market. It's no exaggeration to say that when I saw the Xiaomi SU7 enter the market with a starting price of 215,900 yuan, it had already taken the first step towards success.
