  • General Overview

This series review conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the 2020 Honda BR-V 1.5L V.

    Power System

The engine is a 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated, with a CVT automatic transmission, maximum power 120 PS, maximum torque 145 N·m, 0-100 km/h takes 11.6 seconds, over 4 seconds faster than Perodua Aruz, CVT responds relatively quickly to throttle input.

    Fuel Consumption

After a journey of 136.4 kilometers with 60% highway and 40% city, the calculated fuel consumption is 7.7 liters/100 kilometers.

    Body Dimensions

    Not mentioned.

    Interior Configuration

The interior is made up of hard plastic, part leather, like the door armrest. The seats are leather, the sound system upgraded to 6 speakers. The infotainment system operation is not smooth enough, and the user interface is plain.

    Safety System

Only equipped with 2 safety airbags, no ADAS system.

    Space and Practicality

The second-row space is ample, with plenty of knee and head space for an adult of 175cm. The third-row space is good by 7-seater standards. Plenty of storage space, trunk space when the third-row seats are raised is 223 liters, the trunk floor height is 59cm which is relatively low.

    Purchase and Cost

The selling price is RM 96,900 (inclusive of SST), excluding SST is RM 93,420 (as of December 31, 2020). In terms of maintenance costs, the maintenance cost of 10,000 kilometers is 235.79 RM, the maintenance cost of 60,000 kilometers is 433.67 RM, etc., the total maintenance cost is 3,591.65 RM.

    Driving Performance

Linear acceleration is faster than Perodua Aruz, braking distance 40.8 meters. Steering is light and responsive. The overall driving performance score is 32/50.

    Ride Comfort

Suspension is set for full load, not as smooth as Aruz when empty, good handling of large fluctuations. Good thigh support in the front seats, rear seats are a bit low. Noise level higher than Aruz, poor sound insulation at all speeds.

    Quality and Features

In terms of appearance, panel gap deviation does not exceed 1.0mm, average paint thickness is 110μm. The interior workmanship and materials are average.

    Conclusion

2020 Honda BR-V 1.5L V offers near-car driving experience, spacious interior, good fuel economy, but safety features such as only 2 airbags are shortcomings, price increases but not many value-added features.
