[PCauto]BMW Group has officially unveiled a groundbreaking innovation named Heart of Joy, an integrated intelligent driving control system set to be incorporated into all forthcoming pure electric vehicle models.

As a pivotal element of the electrical architecture for pure electric vehicles, Heart of Joy marks a significant advancement by achieving the deep integration of powertrain and driving dynamics functions for the first time. Traditionally, various systems within the vehicle functioned independently, which often resulted in delays and coordination challenges during operation. In contrast, Heart of Joy offers seamless integration of essential functions including acceleration and braking control, vehicle stability management, dynamic steering functions, and charging management, boasting a tenfold increase in information processing speed compared to previous systems, which facilitates precise responses within milliseconds.

The core strengths of this system manifest across several different dimensions. In the realm of power and energy management integration, the profound fusion of the powertrain, braking system, and energy recovery system allows for 98% of driving scenarios to operate without reliance on traditional braking mechanisms. The braking force generated through energy recovery alone is sufficient to meet everyday driving needs. This innovative approach not only substantially reduces energy consumption but also enhances overall vehicle efficiency by up to 25%.

In dynamic driving conditions, operators will experience a significantly enhanced driving experience. Previously, maneuvering through curves required drivers to exert careful control over speed and steering, complicating operation. With Heart of Joy, drivers need only make minor adjustments. The “Super Brain of Driving Control” is capable of executing all driving dynamic function calculations with unprecedented speed and precision, thereby providing exceptional corner stability and ensuring accurate entry into bends.

Moreover, in low-speed driving contexts, such as congested urban environments characterized by frequent stops and starts, the traditional demands of constant braking and acceleration can be exhausting. Heart of Joy rectifies this issue by facilitating seamless transitions between braking and restarting across various driving modes—whether in D or B mode, or while utilizing adaptive cruise control, the handbrake, or parking mode—significantly enhancing overall driving comfort.

Developed entirely in-house by BMW, Heart of Joy harnesses over a century of accumulated expertise in driving dynamics. Currently, the innovative control functions are the subject of multiple patent applications, and every future BMW pure electric vehicle model will be equipped with this revolutionary system.
