CX-80 too large? Too expensive? Mazda also offers you the CX-60

[PCauto] Along with the launch of the Mazda CX-80, the smaller CX-60 was also introduced. This model, as one of the key SUVs in Mazda's global product lineup, is imported into Malaysia from Japan.
In terms of market positioning, the Mazda CX-60 directly targets the premium SUV segment, competing with German luxury brands like the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, and Audi Q5.
The official price is RM 199,000, excluding on-road costs and insurance, or RM 200,510.40 on-road excluding insurance.
According to Bermaz Motor, the CX-60 comes with a 5-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty as well as a 5-year or 100,000-kilometer free maintenance package.
CX-60 Feels More Like a Smaller CX-80
Similar to the CX-80, the CX-60's exterior continues Mazda's signature "Kodo Design" philosophy, emphasizing the harmony of elegance and power.
The exterior features adaptive LED headlights (with signature lighting and glare-free high beam technology), a bold front grille optimized for airflow, and a sculpted rear end with LED combination taillights.
The vehicle dimensions are 4,740mm in length, 1,890mm in width, 1,680mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,870mm, a curb weight of 1,770kg, and a ground clearance of 175mm. It features 20-inch alloy wheels and 235/50/R20 tires.
In terms of color options, the CX-60 is available in five exterior choices: Soul Red Crystal, Rhodium White, Jet Black, Platinum Quartz, and Zircon Sand.
CX-60 Maintains the Same Level of Luxury as the CX-80 for the Interior
Although priced significantly lower than the CX-80, the interior of the CX-60 still uses a lot of high-end materials. The seats are covered in black Nappa leather with maple wood trim, along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch MZD Connect infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Of course, due to its smaller body size, the CX-60 offers a two-row, five-seat layout.
Additional features include a panoramic sunroof, a Heads-Up Display (HUD), a 12-speaker Bose audio system (integrated with Master Sound Revive Noise Reduction technology), a wireless phone charger, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
CX-60 is equipped with a 2.5L naturally aspirated engine
In terms of powertrain, the Malaysian version of the CX-60 comes with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine, featuring Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology, delivering an output of approximately 191 PS and a torque of approximately 261 Nm.
The transmission system is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission (8-Speed EAT) and adopts a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout, built upon a new generation scalable platform with a longitudinal engine design.
This configuration not only ensures responsive power delivery but also optimizes fuel efficiency through efficient transmission and idle stop-start technology. It is recommended to use RON 95 or higher gasoline, with a fuel tank capacity of 58 liters, making it suitable for urban commuting and long-distance driving.
Safety performance is another highlight of the CX-60
The CX-60 is equipped with the comprehensive i-ACTIVSENSE advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). This includes Adaptive LED Headlights (ALH), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA), Lane-Keep Assist System (LAS), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), and Smart Brake Support (SBS) for both front and rear.
In addition, the model introduces the 360-degree panoramic monitoring system (with transparent chassis view) for the first time in Mazda products and is equipped with Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) technology. Combined with 8 safety airbags, ABS, EBD, DSC, and other basic safety features, it provides comprehensive protection for the driver.
The official statement suggests CX-60 may offer different powertrain options in the future
Mazda stated that the market performance of the CX-60 has exceeded initial expectations. More configurations (such as a 3.3-liter turbocharged engine and all-wheel-drive version) may be introduced in the future.
Mazda also mentioned that Malaysia is an important market, with over 200,000 Mazda owners currently in the country.
Through the production base of the Inokom factory in Kulim, Kedah, Mazda ensures that the quality of locally assembled models (such as CX-5, CX-8, and CX-30) is consistent with the Japanese parent factory while supporting regional exports to Thailand, the Philippines, and other countries.
In the future, Mazda plans to continue introducing the next-generation CX-5 and updated versions of the CX-30 to strengthen its product lineup.
