【PCauto】According to data released by the JPJ, there was a significant increase in electric vehicle registrations last month in China. In April 2024, the number of electric vehicles registered nationwide skyrocketed to 2,892, compared to just 1,609 vehicles in April last year, representing a year-over-year growth of 79.7%.

Furthermore, electric vehicles accounted for 4.44% of the total vehicle registrations in April, which stood at 65,200 units. From January to April 2025, a total of 9,719 electric vehicles were registered, marking a 54.32% increase from 6,298 units during the same period last year.

Among electric vehicles, the Proton e.Mas 7 emerged as the most popular model, registering 799 units, surpassing the second place by a margin of two times.

The ranking is as followed:

1.   Proton e.Mas 7: 799 units

2.   BYD Sealion 7: 393 units

3.   BYD Atto 3: 321 units

4.   BYD M6: 190 units

5.   Denza D9: 157 units

6.   BYD Seal: 134 units

7.   Tesla Model 3: 90 units

8.   Zeekr 009: 77 units

9.   Xpeng X9: 77 units

10. Xpeng G6: 76 units

Following the Proton e.Mas 7, BYD dominated the rankings with multiple models and its sub-brand Denza, claiming positions 2 through 6.

Specifically, the BYD Sealion 7 ranked second with 393 registrations, thanks to its impressive exterior design and spacious interior that attracted consumers seeking a comfortable driving experience. The BYD Atto 3 followed in third place with 321 units registered; the new Atto 3 Ultra's launch, coupled with special discounts and an 8-year service package bundling strategy, successfully stimulated market demand and boosted registrations. Other models like the BYD M6 and Seal also performed well, showcasing the brand's competitiveness across various segments.

Tesla's Model 3 secured 90 registrations in April, placing seventh. Although registration numbers lag behind its some domestic and Chinese brands, Tesla maintains a solid presence in Malaysia's premium electric vehicle market, thanks to its leadership in areas like autonomous driving and battery technology.

However, as numerous competitors continue to develop their technology and product strength, the pressure on Tesla’s rankings is gradually increasing. Compared to earlier periods, Tesla faces fiercer challenges in registration competition. For instance, models like the Zeekr 009, Xpeng X9, and Xpeng G6 are not far behind in registration numbers.

In terms of the registration rankings, the Proton e.Mas 7 firmly holds a significant share of its market segment, maintaining an absolute leading position. However, BYD surpasses Proton in total registrations due to its extensive range of models. It is said that the e.Mas 5 is on its way, suggesting that Proton might have an opportunity to surpass BYD in overall volume in the future.

Perodua Traz VS Ativa, which one is more worth buying?

Traz, as a newly launched mid-sized SUV, offers more spacious room and mainstream power compared to small SUVs, but its pricing appears slightly higher than that of Ativa. Ativa, on the other hand, is Perodua's long-time best-selling small SUV with more affordable pricing and a balanced combination of power and tech features.

Will the Toyota Yaris Cross come to Malaysia? If it comes, how much will it sell for?

The launch of Perodua Traz indicates that the market size of small SUVs in Malaysia has been expanding in recent years. However, the question naturally shifts back to Toyota. As a brand with the most comprehensive product line and a strong foundation in both the SUV and hybrid sectors, will Toyota choose the Yaris Cross to participate in this small SUV competition?

Perodua Traz VS Toyota Yaris Cross, where does the Traz fall short?

Before the official launch of the Perodua Traz, market expectations were actually very high because it shares the same DNGA platform as the Toyota Yaris Cross. However, sharing the same platform does not equate to the same experience, and the Traz's final performance has indeed been disappointing. Perhaps it is precisely because of the delayed launch that it has almost no competitiveness in the current competitive environment.

Why is the Toyota Sienna so popular with so many people?

In Malaysia, most family MPVs choose Toyota Alphard, Vellfire, or Kia Carnival. These models each have their advantages in luxury, space, or brand influence, but models that truly balance large space, multifunctional practicality, fuel efficiency, and reliability are rarely seen.
