GAC Group's first overseas CKD factory is completed and put into production in Malaysia

On April 29, GAC Passenger Cars and Glorious Mountains Chen Chang Automobile Co., Ltd. held the completion and mass production ceremony of the Malaysia CKD Factory in the Segambut Factory in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Segambut Factory is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is a new factory built by GAC and Chen Chang to GAC standards. The standard capacity of the factory is 34.4 thousand vehicles/year, and the maximum capacity can exceed 50 thousand vehicles/year. It is expected that GAC's production and sales in Malaysia will exceed 2000 units this year, and the import of new models is also actively underway.

It is reported that this project is GAC's first CKD project overseas, which was started in May 2023, and it is also an important step for GAC to open up overseas markets. The Trumpchi GS3 Shadow Speed became the first model to be assembled locally in Malaysia. CKD refers to the assembly in the form of completely disassembled parts, which usually only appears in the initial stage of an automobile factory. With the establishment of the parts supply system, the localization rate of the automobile factory will gradually increase, forming independent research and development and production.

Before the mass production ceremony, the relevant leaders and technical experts of GAC and Glorious Mountains Chen Chang conducted a strict review of the factory construction, production system, production preparation, quality training, mass production models, etc. (Malaysia CKD Project G1 Valve - Mass Production Start Review Conference). The review team successfully passed the review of all the specific aspects of the GS3 Shadow Speed model pre-produced by the Segambut Factory in Malaysia, and all indicators met the mass production standard. The review team agreed to the completion of the factory and mass production of the models.

The Malaysian market has responded quite well to the launch of Trumpchi models, and the CBU complete vehicles imported in the early stage have been sold out as soon as they are launched. Both GAC and Glorious Mountains Chen Chang stated that they will launch more CKD models to the Malaysian market as soon as possible.
