Geely Xingyuan to be launched on October 9, will it enter Malaysia as Proton eMAS 5?

The Geely Xingyuan, a model under Geely, will be launched in China on October 9th, with a total of 5 models. The model's range is 310-410km, and the official pre-sale price is 78,800 to 107,800 RMB, which will be RM 48,000 to RM 65,000 when converted to Malaysian Ringgit. Geely Xingyuan represents Proton's new pure electric vehicle model, which may enter Malaysia as Proton eMAS 5 in the future. The market positioning of this vehicle is to compete with BYD Dolphin.

The front face of Geely Xingyuan has a Geome brand logo. Geome was once an independent brand under Geely, named Geometry. However, due to sluggish sales, it was downgraded to the Geely series and tried to explore new markets.

The overall appearance of Geely Xingyuan adopts a very simple and rounded design language. The front face uses a closed grille design, which is extremely in line with the current mainstream electric vehicle design. It looks a bit like the Tesla Model Y from a distance. In terms of body size, the length, width, and height of the car are 4135/1805/1570mm respectively, the wheelbase is 2650mm, it is positioned as a small car, and users can choose wheel hubs of 15-16 inches.

This car marks the beginning of Geely's cooperation with Häagen-Dazs ice cream manufacturer. The body offers 7 colors including basil green, berry pink, vanilla rice, milk cap white, sea salt blue, truffle gray, and mousse silver. The names of the car colors all come from ice cream flavors. It’s clear that the Geely Xingyuan is targeting the young female market, with the brand even emphasizing that those who test-drive the car will receive Häagen-Dazs ice cream. In terms of power, Geely Xingyuan is equipped with a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous single motor with model numbers TZ160XS001 and TZ160XS002, which provides 79-116 horsepower, peak torque of 130N·m-150N·m, and a maximum speed of 125km/h-135km/h. Geely Xingyuan's front suspension uses McPherson independent suspension, and the rear suspension uses multi-link independent suspension.

In terms of cruising range, Geely Xingyuan is equipped with CATL's lithium iron phosphate battery, with a battery capacity of 30.12kwh-40.16kwh, a pure electric CLTC cruising performance of 310km-410km, and a fast charge from 30％ to 80％ which takes about 25 minutes. At the same time, the car is also equipped with a 3.3kw external discharge function, which can provide a mobile power source outdoors.

For the safety configuration, all five models of Geely Xingyuan are equipped with basic ABS, brake assistance, traction control, body stability control, rollover stability system and tire pressure monitor. The passive configuration will pay more attention to the safety in the front row, with only front row safety airbags and side airbags, and child safety seat interfaces in the back row. From this aspect of configuration, it seems that Geely wants to position this model as a female user group who wants to take children out on weekends and with girlfriends.
