Jaecoo J5 priced from RM110k – lower than earlier estimate, B-segment SUV with 147 PS and 540° camera

[PCauto]The Jaecoo J5 is scheduled to make its official Malaysian debut on March 5, 2026. While final pricing has yet to be announced, earlier previews indicated an estimated starting price of around RM110,000 – notably lower than the initial RM120,000 indication shared during last year’s showcase.

If confirmed, that adjustment would position the J5 more competitively in the compact SUV segment, placing it directly against established rivals.

Exterior and dimensions

In terms of design, the J5 follows the brand’s current styling direction. Slim headlamps, an upright front fascia and a strong shoulder line give it a slight Land Rover-inspired look, though the overall execution remains more crossover-oriented than full SUV.

Dimensionally, the J5 measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,650 mm in height, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. That makes it dimensionally similar to the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V, and slightly smaller than the upcoming Mitsubishi Xforce.

Boot space is rated at 480 litres, expandable to 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded – competitive figures for a B-segment SUV.

Interior and features

Inside, the J5 is expected to offer an 8-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 13.2-inch portrait infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Wireless charging, an eight-speaker audio system and ambient lighting are also part of the previewed specification list.

The seats are trimmed in TÜV-certified antibacterial and scratch-resistant synthetic leather. Jaecoo has also highlighted optional pet-oriented accessories such as a partition net, dedicated seat mat and pet carrier.

As always, final market specifications will only be confirmed at launch.

Powertrain and safety

Power is expected to come from a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 147 PS and 210 Nm, paired with a CVT transmission. These figures are typical for the segment and should place it in line with key rivals.

Safety equipment previewed so far includes a 540-degree camera system (with underbody view) as well as a suite of ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation assist. Full details of the Malaysian specification will be confirmed during the official launch event.

Warranty and ownership details

Warranty coverage, service intervals, CKD/CBU status and aftersales network details have yet to be fully detailed ahead of launch. These will likely play an important role in purchase decisions, especially given that the J5 will compete in a highly price-sensitive segment.

The model will be sold under the Omoda Jaecoo brand, which has been expanding its dealer network locally.

Pre-launch booking package

Ahead of its official debut, Omoda Jaecoo is offering a pre-launch early bird package valued at RM8,888 for initial bookings. This consists of RM3,000 worth of complimentary first-year insurance, RM3,888 in cash rebates and RM2,000 worth of J5-specific accessories, including an in-car karaoke set, subwoofer and portable flashlight.

Final eligibility and terms are expected to be clarified at launch.

What to expect

With its official unveiling set for March 5, the Jaecoo J5 will soon enter one of the most competitive segments in the market. It is set to rival the Proton X50, Honda HR-V and Mitsubishi Xforce, among others.

Estimated pricing suggests it could be positioned aggressively, but until the final numbers are revealed, buyers may want to wait for full confirmation. As always, time will tell how the market responds once bookings convert into deliveries.
