BYD SONG PLUS DM-i: the Best Hybrid SUV? Million-dollar New Car Off the Line!

On July 29, we learned from BYD's official announcement that the compact SUV under its brand - the SONG PLUS electric vehicle, met a new milestone as the 1 millionth car rolled off the production line, making it the first China's electric SUV to reach a million sales. The SONG PLUS electric vehicle was first launched in March 2021. It is equipped with BYD's DM-i super hybrid technology and has quickly become popular across the country. It has achieved sales of over 30,000 units for 11 consecutive months and set a remarkable record of over 60,000 units in a single month. Last year, its annual sales exceeded 420,000 units and it has won the sales championship of plug-in hybrid SUV models for two and a half years in a row.

Currently, BYD SONG PLUS electric vehicle offers 10 different configuration models for sale, including DM-i hybrid and EV pure electric options. The DM-i hybrid model was recently launched with five varieties, priced between 135,800 - 175,800 RMB. And it is equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM technology. The CLTC pure electric endurance is up to 160km, the NEDC power consumption is as low as 3.88L/100km, and the CLTC comprehensive endurance mileage is 1500km.

In terms of appearance, the 2025 SONG PLUS DM-i continues the design aesthetics of the ocean network, and the whole style is more simple and sporty. The family-style front face design with smooth body and penetrating tail light has a high degree of recognition. At the same time, the original "BUILD YOUR DREAMS" logo on the tail is replaced by the more concise and atmospheric glowing "BYD" logo, which is even more high-end. In terms of color, the new car has four colors: smoky, time gray, snow white, and Delan black.

In terms of body size, the SONG PLUS DM-i is 4775/1890/1670mm long, wide and high, and the wheelbase is 2765mm, which is slightly larger than the general compact SUV.

In terms of interior, the overall layout design of 2025 BYD SONG PLUS DM-i is consistent with the old glorious version. It is equipped with a 10.25-inch full LCD dashboard, a 15.6-inch adaptive rotating large screen, a three-spoke flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel, and a crystal material electronic shifting mechanism. And it comes standard with the latest DiLink 100 operating system, and supports 5G network, dual-zone voice recognition wake-up, app store, mobile phone APP remote control, and OTA upgrades.

From the configuration perspective, the new car is standard equipped with tire pressure monitoring, 360° panorama image, driving recorder, cloud service APP, main driver electric seat, onboard ETC, mobile phone NFC key, VTOL mobile power station, panoramic sunroof, 19-inch wind blade wheels, electric back door and 12.3-inch full LCD dashboard. In addition, functions like 50W wireless fast charging for cell phones and HUD heads-up might appear on some models of 2025 SONG PLUS DM-i.

In terms of power, the 2025 SONG PLUS DM-I uses BYD's fifth-generation DM hybrid technology. The 1.5L engine has a maximum power of 74 kW and a maximum torque of 126 N · m. The driving motor outputs a maximum power of 160 kW and a maximum torque of 260 nm. The transmission system matches the E-CVT stepless transmission, the official 100km acceleration time is 7.7 seconds, and the NEDC loss fuel consumption is 3.9L/100km.

In terms of endurance, the new car is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate blade battery pack, which provides battery packs with capacities of 12.9 kWh, 18.3 kWh, and 26.6 kWh depending on the configuration. The corresponding CLTC pure electric cruising range is 75km, 112km, and 160km, and the CLTC combined cruising range is 1415km, 1450km, and 1500km respectively.

In addition, the rear suspension of the new car has been upgraded to a rear four-link independent suspension, and the high-powered model is equipped with FSD frequency variable damping shock absorbers, which also provides better comfort and handling.
