Dongfeng Vigo and Dongfeng 007 both debut, expected to be launched in Q1 2026

【PCauto】As the electric vehicle market continues to expand, Dongfeng Motors Malaysia recently partnered with its exclusive local distributor, Central Auto Distributors Berhad (CADB), to preview two all-new electric vehicle models: the family-oriented Dongfeng Vigo and the performance flagship Dongfeng 007.

This preview marks a key step in the brand's local deployment and signals its ongoing effort to expand its EV portfolio following the 2024 introduction of the Dongfeng Box.

Dongfeng Vigo: Catering to Mainstream Consumer Needs

The Dongfeng Vigo is a C-Segment compact electric SUV. The model has already been launched in Singapore, and the Malaysian-bound version retains familiar dimensions:

4,306 mm in length,

1,868 mm in width,

1,654 mm in height,

and a 2,715 mm wheelbase.

This places its size in the same category as the Proton e.MAS 7, BYD Atto 3, and MG S5 EV.

Unlike the brand's more avant-garde Box or the sleeker 007, the Vigo adopts a boxy, slightly rugged design, complemented by L-shaped LED headlights and taillights and a split tailgate, making it more practical for family users’ needs.

Dongfeng Vigo Interior: Designed for Practicality and Convenience

The Vigo's center console layout features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a vertically oriented 12.8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, along with a 540° panoramic camera system.

The Vigo's interior amenities include a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a wireless charging pad, a six-speaker audio system, faux leather seats with front heating and ventilation, and ambient lighting. These amenities, along with the overall material quality, surpass what is typically expected in the entry-level SUV segment.

Moreover, the split tailgate design, which is usually only seen in higher-end SUVs such as the BMW X5, has become a unique selling point for Vigo.

Regarding power, while final specifications have yet to be officially confirmed, preview data suggests the Vigo is expected to mirror Singapore specifications: single-motor front-wheel-drive layout, capable of outputting 135 hp (99 kW) and 230 N·m of torque, with 0–100 km/h acceleration in approximately 9.5 seconds.

The CLTC range can reach 471 kilometers, equipped with a 51.87 kWh battery pack, supporting a maximum of 167 kW DC fast charging and 6.6 kW AC charging.

The official states that in fast charging mode, charging from 30% to 80% takes about 18 minutes, further enhancing its convenience for daily use.

The Dongfeng 007, debuting at the same time, represents the brand's high-performance flagship direction

In contrast to the Vigo, which targets the family and entry-level EV market, the Dongfeng 007 belongs entirely to a higher-end, performance- and technology-focused segment.

Serving as one of Dongfeng's global strategic models, the 007 utilizes the latest Eπ (E-Pi) electric platform. It has been hailed in the Chinese market for its compelling combination of sports car-inspired design, robust performance, and extended range.

The Dongfeng 007 features body proportions distinctly different from traditional sedans. It adopts a "Fastback" layout, combined with SUV-like height and sports car-inspired waistlines, resulting in a futuristic visual impression.

Beyond the low, wide front fascia with its through-type LED daytime running lights, thoughtful details such as hidden door handles, frameless doors, and an automatically elevating charging port cover are complemented by a distinct sense of technological luxury.

The rear features a fastback-style tailgate, which not only enhances the sporty visual appeal but also provides significantly better luggage space and opening width compared to traditional sedans.

In terms of body size, the 007 measures approximately:

Length: 4,900 mm

Width: 1,910 mm

Height: 1,510 mm

Wheelbase: 2,915 mm

Its size is close to that of models like the Tesla Model 3 Highland, BYD Seal, and Hyundai Ioniq 6, but leans towards being slightly larger, offering a more spacious advantage.

The interior design continues its focus on luxurious and sporty positioning

The 007's interior features a large central control screen and a minimalist interior layout, with extensive use of soft wrapping and synthetic leather materials.

Preview information indicates that high-end models will feature a suite of premium amenities, including a 15.6-inch central control screen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, and hidden air conditioning vents. Rounding out the package will be an optional 19-speaker WANOS premium audio system.

The wide body also provides ample rear space, coupled with the practicality of the liftback tailgate, allowing the 007 to strike a balance between a luxurious ambiance and family space requirements.

Regarding safety technology, the 007 is anticipated to come with a comprehensive ADAS suite geared towards Level 2+ capabilities. Expected features include automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 540° surround-view camera system.

Performance is the core highlight of the 007

According to globally released specifications, the 007 is expected to offer a variety of power configurations in Malaysia, ranging from an entry-level rear-wheel-drive model to a high-range version, and a flagship dual-motor all-wheel-drive model, covering a wide spectrum of options.

The most notable performance variant delivers up to 544 horsepower and 620 N·m of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.9 seconds. These figures are comparable to many high-performance EVs, such as the Tesla Model 3 Performance or BYD Seal AWD.

Even its more affordable long-range rear-wheel-drive variant achieves a masterful balance, offering both spirited acceleration and a driving range exceeding 600 km (WLTP), a key appeal for practical performance buyers.

In terms of battery, the 007 comes with either a 58.35 kWh or 73.48 kWh battery pack, depending on the version, and supports up to 200 kW of DC fast charging, enabling it to charge from 30% to 80% in about 25–30 minutes.

Given its design, performance, space, and technological features, the 007 is positioned to compete in the Malaysian market for electric sedans priced between RM130,000 and RM200,000, placing it in direct competition with models like the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Smart #3.

With its sportier positioning, more comprehensive configurations, and flagship-level performance outputs, the Dongfeng 007 is likely to become a highly talked-about high-performance new option in the local electric vehicle market.

Dongfeng is improving its lineup in Malaysia

For CADB and Dongfeng Malaysia, this media preview carries strategic importance. The CADB management stated that this is a key step in preparing the brand for the 2026 market launch.

Officials estimate that the Vigo will have a starting price of approximately RM100,000. Plans to introduce CKD (locally assembled) production could further enhance its price competitiveness once the current tax exemption policy concludes.

Bolstered by the sales of the Dongfeng Box and the rollout of the "My 1st EV" promotion plan, Dongfeng is building a comprehensive product portfolio in Malaysia that spans entry-level urban EVs, family SUVs, and high-performance electric vehicles.
