【PCauto】On December 1, 2025, Malaysian automaker Perodua launched its first independently developed electric vehicle, the QV-E. This all-electric SUV has an on-the-road price of RM80,000 (excluding insurance). Notably, its battery is offered via a leasing model at RM275 per month, approximately RM297 including tax. The initial market response exceeded expectations, though official order figures remain forthcoming.

Safety is the highlight of QV-E
The QV-E earned a five-star rating under the ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 protocol, achieving an overall score of 88.36.
In the Safety Assist assessment, features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) all achieved top scores.

It also performed strongly in the Motorcyclist Safety category—a pertinent consideration given Malaysia's dense motorcycle traffic. The testing team specifically mentioned that the QV-E's Blind Spot Detection (BSD) system performed very reliably in simulated motorcycle lane-change scenarios.
The QV-E also introduces Child Presence Detection (CPD) technology—a first for Perodua in a mass-produced vehicle.

Utilizing millimeter-wave radar, the system detects breathing and subtle movements of rear-seated children and functions reliably even in high temperatures. This design directly addresses the challenges local families face when using vehicles in extreme heat.
Complementing the CPD system, the QV-E comes standard with six airbags, a panoramic view monitor, and a built-in dashcam, further enhancing its family-friendly appeal.

For driving assistance, the QV-E is equipped with the Smart Drive Assist (SDA) suite, which includes standard features like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Assist (LDA), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). While positioned as an entry-level system, it provides meaningful support for daily driving.
QV-E Enhances Quality Assurance with Battery Leasing Model
The 9-year battery lease contract includes a replacement provision if the battery's State of Health (SoH) falls below 70%—a clear strategy to allay concerns about long-term degradation. The vehicle itself is covered by a 6-year or 150,000 km warranty, while the drive unit and key EV components are covered for an extended period of 8 years or 150,000 km.

QV-E Adheres to a People-Friendly Pricing Strategy
Its competitive pricing challenges the norms established by Japanese brands in the local electric SUV market, while its focus on localized safety features—particularly for motorcyclist protection—sets a new standard for EV development in the ASEAN region.

Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding with Tan Chong Motor grants Perodua access to additional production capacity, supporting higher output. Aligned with the Malaysian government's target of achieving a 15% new energy vehicle penetration rate by 2025, the QV-E is well-positioned to be a significant contributor to local EV adoption.
Through its localized development, comprehensive safety features, and innovative battery leasing model, the QV-E demonstrates formidable competitiveness in Malaysia's price-sensitive automotive market. While full sales data is pending, strong dealer feedback and market reception indicate that the QV-E has successfully carved out a distinctive space for domestic brands in the compact all-electric SUV segment.
