2024 Beijing Auto Show: The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado launched with a starting price of RMB 459,800

On the eve of the official opening of the Beijing Auto Show, and at the FAW Toyota brand night, the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was officially launched. The new car is priced at RMB 459,800-549,800, and four models were released.

In terms of appearance, the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is based on the TNGA-F platform. It offers two design appearances with a retro round headlight front face and a rectangular front face, and the round headlight front face model made its debut. In addition to the previously displayed round lights and rectangular lamp sets, the car also provides different styles of center grid designs. The differences are mainly reflected in the silver decoration bars and brand logos.

On the side of the car body, the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has the same body contour as the new Lexus GX. The straight waistline runs from the front of the car to the end, and the square and wide wheel arches highlight the sense of off-road, further enhancing the vehicle's sturdy feel.

In terms of tail design, the new Prado's tail lights are arranged vertically, which retains the original off-road style and the tail Land Cruiser and Toyota logos are also designed in black. In addition, the new car offers four exterior colors: Platinum White, Ink Black, Arctic Grey, and Platinum Bronze Metallic, as well as three interior colors: Black, Beige, and Brown.

In terms of body size, the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado measures 4920mm/1980mm/1860mm in length, width, and height, respectively, and has a wheelbase of 2850mm. This is the size excluding the spare wheel, and if the spare wheel is included, the length of the car will exceed 5 meters. In terms of seating arrangements, the new Prado will offer options for 5 and 6 seats to meet the needs of different groups of people.

Concerning the interior, the all-new Chinese Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has not yet been announced. Still, it is expected to follow the design of the overseas version. It adopts Toyota's latest family-style design language and is equipped with a full LCD dashboard and 12.3-inch central control screen. It also comes with Toyota's latest entertainment system and equipped with a new generation of Toyota Safety Sense system and off-road functions such as crawl mode and steep slope descent. At the same time, it incorporates rugged design elements, such as the rugged three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, iconic A-pillar handle design, spacious center console layout, and round air conditioning outlet design.

In terms of power, the all-new China-made Prado is built on the same GA-F off-road platform as the Lexus GX, which uses a non-bearing body and comes  with a hybrid system composed of a 2.4T engine and an electric motor. The system maximum power is 330 horsepower, and the system comprehensive torque is 630 N·m. In addition, it is matched with an 8-speed manual-automatic gearbox, and equipped with a full-time 4WD system with Torsen limited-slip central differential + electronically controlled mechanical rear axle differential lock. Compared with the previous generation, the displacement and the number of cylinders have decreased, but the actual parameters and fuel economy are better.

In terms of off-road parameters, the approach angle, departure angle, and ramp over angle of the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado are 31 degrees, 22 degrees, and 25 degrees, respectively, and the ground clearance is 221mm.

The competition in China's hardcore off-road SUV market is becoming increasingly fierce. With a rich variety of categories and diversified power systems, the buying threshold has even reached below 200,000, and the price range of 300,000-500,000 has become the main battlefield for major brands. Models like Tank 500Hi4-T, Fangcheng Leopard 5, Tank 700Hi4-T, etc. are in this price range. They not only have outstanding off-road performance, but also pay attention to the improvement of intelligence, comfort, and fuel economy. The new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado faces no small challenges and pressure.
