The Dongfeng Box is set to launch in Malaysia soon—according to the social media page of its distributor, Central Auto Distributors (CADB), the vehicle is expected to be released this Friday, November 22.
The company has announced the official pricing for the electric vehicle, which will compete with the BYD Dolphin. The new car will be offered in two versions: the basic Dongfeng Box E2, with an on-the-road price of RM100,700, and the Dongfeng Box E3, with a retail price of RM113,700. It’s worth noting that the Dongfeng Box E3 model also offers a two-tone paint option, but the price will increase by approximately RM200.
Dongfeng Box E2: RM100,700
Dongfeng Box E3: RM113,700
The Dongfeng Box is manufactured by Dongfeng, a Chinese automotive manufacturer, and the corresponding model in China is the Dongfeng Nammi 01. Based on the body dimensions of the Dongfeng Nammi 01, the Dongfeng Box’s dimensions are 4030mm (L) x 1810mm (W) x 1570mm (H), with a wheelbase of 2660mm.
The Dongfeng Box features the distinctive Dongfeng “Double Swallow” logo and is equipped with a full-width light strip design. The front headlights have a unique style, with C-shaped daytime running lights. Additionally, the car has a closed front grille with a minimalist style, a full-width air intake at the lower front, and small fang-like decorations.
Both the Dongfeng Box and the Chinese model Dongfeng Nammi 01 are built on the Dongfeng Quantum Architecture 3 platform. The car will offer two range versions: 330km and 430km. The Dongfeng Box E2 and E3 differ mainly in their lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery capacities. The base version’s battery has a capacity of 31.45 kWh, providing a range of 330 km, while the Dongfeng Box E3 has a larger 42.3 kWh battery, offering a range of 430 km, which is 10 km more than the BYD Dolphin Dynamic Standard Range.
In terms of power, all models are driven by a single electric motor at the front, producing 95 PS (70 kW) and 160 N·m of torque, with a top speed of 140 km/h. Compared to its main competitor, the BYD Dolphin Dynamic Standard Range, the Dongfeng Box has the same power but slightly less torque (20 N·m less).
In terms of safety, the Dongfeng Box E3 is the only variant equipped with driver assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centering assistance, traffic sign recognition, and parking assistance. Unfortunately, the entire Dongfeng Box lineup only comes with two airbags.
Inside, the Dongfeng Box is equipped with a 12.8-inch smart infotainment screen, which supports features like smart car search, welcome mode, and voice interaction. Additionally, it offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and comes with ADAS Level 2 smart driving assistance and FAP automatic parking.
