Tesla's $10K-Saver Cybertruck: No AWD, No Air Suspension — Max Value Model

RobertApr 15, 2025, 10:32 AM

[PCauto] Tesla has recently launched the Cybertruck long-range RWD model in U.S. , with a starting price of $69,990, which is $10,000 lower than the previous AWD model.

The model is positioned as the "most economical Cybertruck model," aiming to attract consumers with limited budget through simplified configurations and tax incentives. Additionally, this model qualifies for a $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit in U.S..

This affordable model adopts a single-motor drivetrain, eliminating the dual-motor configuration of the all-wheel-drive version, but significantly improves the range. Without the tonneau cover, it offers an estimated range of approximately 560 kilometers, which extends to 580 kilometers when equipped with the soft cover—surpassing the AWD version's 523-kilometer range.

However, the powerful dirvetrain comes with some performance trade-offs: acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes about 6.2 seconds, and towing capacity is reduced to 3.4 tons, substantially lower than the AWD version's 5-ton capability.

In addition to canceling all-wheel drive, in order to reduce costs, the long-range RWD version of the Cybertruck also further cancels a number of high-end configurations:

  • Suspension: Switched from adaptive air suspension to standard adaptive coil springs.
  • Seating: Fabric seats with heated (but no longer ventilated) front seating.
  • Power Outlets: Removed the 120V/240V household power outlet (disabling external device charging while driving).
  • Rear Display: Eliminated the rear touchscreen.
  • Bed Cover: Now includes a manual bed cover instead of the automatic version. Customers can opt for the newly designed soft tonneau cover at an additional $750.

The launch of the long-range RWD of Tesla Cybertruck shows the extension of its product line to the economical sub-market. Although there are compromises in configuration and performance, the advantages in endurance and price give it strong potential to get popular in the United States and emerging markets.
