2.0T + 8AT! Omoda C9 Joins the D-class SUV, Full of Power!

The Omoda C9 SUV (manufactured by Jaecoo) is previewed in China today, and the car is expected to hit the market in December of this year as a locally assembled (CKD) model. The front-wheel drive model is priced at about RM185,000, while the all-wheel drive model is priced at about RM195,000.

Regarding transforming Omoda C9 into a car sold by Jaecoo, both these car brands come from Chery, a subsidiary of the Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery. Although the reasons behind this are unclear, such product listing mode may be an internal competitive marketing strategy of its own brand. The current Omoda C9 is still seen as a high-end model, while Jaecoo will mainly be responsible for the sales and after-sales service of this model, including warranty and maintenance.

The Omoda C9 model is positioned as a D-class SUV, built on the M3X platform, with a body length of 4775mm, width of 1920mm, height of 1671mm, wheelbase of 2800mm, and a trunk capacity ranging from 660 litres to 1783 litres. This is comparable to other mid-size SUVs on the market, such as the Honda CR-V, Proton X90, and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.

In terms of exterior design, it includes surrounding headlights and taillights, "diamond matrix" air intakes and daytime running lights, and 20-inch alloy hubs equipped with Michelin Primacy SUV tires.
If configured according to the specifications of the Chinese market, the Omoda C9 will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive. However, it has been reported that the domestic market may adopt an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Under this power configuration, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.6 seconds, with a fuel consumption limit of 7.6 liters per 100 kilometers.

In addition to the all-gasoline version, the Omoda C9 also launched a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, replacing the 2.0-liter engine with a smaller 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, and equipped with Chery's proprietary C-DM PHEV device. This PHEV device consists of a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and two electric motors, capable of providing a total system output of up to 610 HP and 920 NM.
